Extract | → PHIWE NDODANA MAKAULA 12 The Manifestation of the Philosophy of Ubuntu on Bhaca Music and Social Structure Introduction I am intimately familiar with the music and culture of the Bhaca tribe of the Mount Frere region of the Eastern Cape in the Republic of South Africa, because I am a member of this grouping.

I was born in Mount Frere and have lived there for eleven years. The material for this survey was collected during field investigations in the Mount Frere district of East Griqualand during the period January to October, The Bhaca are a small group of people occupying roughly the district of Mount Frere - although a considerable number lie outside district boundaries, particularly on the Mount Ayliff.
